Amid the arid urban landscape of São Paulo’s Marginal Tietê, the new SENAI School of Biotechnology emerges as a green oasis, set within a site enriched by a significant preservation area. The building is organized into three volumes, articulated by internal courtyards that bring abundant natural light while creating sheltered outdoor spaces, protected from urban noise and prevailing odors from the river.
The architecture responds to its climatic and environmental context with precision: façades are equipped with solar shading tailored to orientation, skylights deliver uniform daylight across classrooms and laboratories, and all circulation areas operate with natural ventilation. Teaching and laboratory spaces combine cross-ventilation with air-conditioning, ensuring comfort while significantly reducing energy consumption.
Constructed with a prefabricated concrete structure, the building embraces efficiency and durability. Metal elements define canopies and solar protections, introducing a sense of lightness, while architectural concrete panels ensure low maintenance — a robust, timeless presence within a highly polluted and traffic-dense urban environment.
